Volunteering and Internships at Open-City

The role of volunteers and interns is pivotal to our organisation and for over a decade we have been running a highly successful Volunteer Programme involving hundreds of people from a wide range of professions and backgrounds. Through supporting volunteers, we aim to develop skills and expertise, provide opportunities for interaction with our broad audiences, and encourage a wider interest in London's rich architectural landscape.

By joining our Volunteer Programme you can make a difference by injecting new skills and experience into our organisation, and by helping us make our initiatives and events happen. We have a team of volunteers and interns who help out throughout the year in the office and are core to our work. There are also hundreds of volunteers that support the Open House London Annual Event every September.

Volunteering in the office

Office volunteers provide invaluable support year-round to the small Open-City core staff through assisting with various projects and tasks at our office near Liverpool Street. This varies from buildings research and recruitment for the Open House weekend, to press and marketing work, general administrative support, assistance with our education events and much more. We work closely with all of our volunteers who are an integral part of the team, and offer a range of work opportunities to suit the individual. We also have several social occasions annually which are great fun too! For more information about opportunities and what is involved, contact Eleanor Campion giving an idea of the projects or work areas you are most interested in, a bit about your background and experience, and your availability.

Want to find out how to get a building or event involved in Open House?
The majority of the programme is compiled with our own research, and sometimes suggestions for inclusion are made to us which we are then able to consider on their individual merits. The criteria for inclusion in the Open House event are architectural merit, and buildings/areas of buildings that are not usually accessible to the general public.
