The Summer Architecture Academy for young Londoners took place from 2 to 5 August at the University of Westminster Ambika P3 space. Nearly 100 young people aged 12 - 18 from all over London took part, investigating through creative explorations and workshops over the four days how their city is designed and built, with the final results on display during a prestigious celebration reception and public exhibition.
As
a team, young people, built environment professionals, architecture students,
and Open-City Educators created a massive 3D model designing a new
urban quarter, in the Ambika P3 space, testing out life-size structures,
model-making techniques and mapping along the way.
The programme opened young people's eyes to the great variety of career opportunities in the built environment industries, many of which they may not previously have known about. Professionals and students gained skills and experience in working with young people, all vital to the development of their practice and careers.
The Principal Sponsor of this year’s programme is Lend Lease, with support from The Happold Trust as Engineering Day Sponsor and Arts Council England. The Academy is held in partnership with Ambika P3 at the University of Westminster.
