Schools Programmes

The built environment is rich with potential and Open-City education programmes are developed to realise this full potential through exploration, creativity, direct experience and partnerships with schools and architectural practices.

Targeting inner-city state schools, our initiatives aim to broaden horizons and enrich curriculum activities, especially in design education.

This section tells you in more detail about current schools programmes. We work with primary and secondary schools right across the capital:

Accelerate into University! is a brand new mentoring programme for students in years 11 and 12 at London state schools, delivered in partnership with UCL and Make Architects, to widen access to higher edication architecture-related courses.

Architecture in Schools: Primary is our annual programme for primary schools.

Architecture in Schools: Secondary is our annual programme for secondary schools.

My Green School is an initiative to give children aged 7 to 11 across the UK the opportunity to learn about, and be inspired by, sustainable architecture through first hand investigations of their own school building and creative curriculum-linked activities.

Five of the core primary subjects are explored through architecture in our Key Stage 2 Curriculum-Linked Interactive Lessons. The Teachers Guide and Lessons can be downloaded for free here.

The intiative also led to the inspiring My Green School Eco-Design Competition which challenged primary school age designers to come up with their own environmentally friendly school building.
