Photographing the City’s iconic structures, the tour includes Lloyd’s Building and Heron Tower where lighting dramatically re-enforces their night time presence. At Tower Bridge a new illumination to mark the 2012 Olympics replaced the first significant illumination of 25 years.
This is an introductory tour led by an acclaimed architectural photographer and member of the architectural photography agency VIEW Pictures, who will be on hand to guide you and answer any questions as you discover the techniques of night photography.
Participants should be familiar with the manual functions of their camera.
The tour will cover:
- Illumination of the City’s buildings and how to photograph them
- Using long shutter speeds to render light trails
- Optimum time to take night photographs
- Selection of aperture, shutter and ISO to produce best results
- Your rights to photograph in public
Meeting point: At the post boxes, opposite Lloyd’s of London, One Lime Street EC3M 7HA. Duration 2 hours approx. Tour ends at Tower Pier. Cost £35.50
Cameras not provided. A TRIPOD IS ESSENTIAL FOR THE NIGHT PHOTOGRAPHY TOURS
Thursday 30 March 7.30pm book here
Please make sure your tripod can support your camera firmly and there is no loose movement. A fully charged battery is essential, as you will be using long exposures and previewing the results, both of which use battery life heavily. The cold air also shortens battery life, so make sure you are prepared. Dress in warm windproof clothing as you will be taking photographs by the river, which is a couple of degrees colder than the start location. Night photography involves long exposures and waiting for light trails, so you are not moving around as much and you need to dress appropriately.
"The tour offered a large number of vistas which are easily overlooked. As I know the City well, it was particularly rewarding to see buildings with which I was reasonably familiar, from a completely new point of view, through the eyes of a photographer"
"It was wonderful having the time and space to look, having the confidence that there would be another impressive scene around the next corner and getting one shot worth entering for In pictures, The Guardian!"
"The tours was a gift from a friend. I had a wonderful time and took some great photos, even with a small digital camera. Grant was a great guide"
"...getting an informed view on new architecture AND some useful photography tips at the same time. Enjoyed everything about the tour. Guide was excellent. Brilliant tour"
